Did you know that where you work can be just as important as the work you do!
What surrounds you, how it makes you feel and even the color scheme and lighting can have an effect on how successful your work day is.
It sounds silly, but we all tend to be more productive and happy when these three needs are met:
1. Comfort – Always choose comfort OVER style! Even though sleek, modern and minimal may be pretty and “in” right now, you’ll regret that rigid chair as soon as the midnight oil starts burning. Nothing beats soft, homey fabrics and colors.
I even buy myself a bouquet of cheap flowers every so often to give me and my office a little boost – it’s important to treat yourself!
2. Familiarity – Surround yourself with the things you love. Fill your office or desk with items and pictures that brighten your day, motivate you and light up your spirit!
3. Organization – I know this is a toughie for a lot of people (myself included) BUT an organized office will serve you so much better than a cluttered and confused one! Everything in your office should have a place where it belongs. Utilize storage containers, filing cabinets, folders and drawers as much as you can. You’d be amazed how much time and frustration can be saved by not having to search and search every time you need to find a particular item!
The #1 tip I can give is to stay on top of it daily – if you move something, put it back at the end of the day. Eventually it becomes a habit and you’ll thank yourself when things get chaotic!
Those are three of my most important qualities needed for a successful home office.
