The perfect bit of sweet fruit, savory salt and chocolate! Cuties! One of my most requested little sweet treats to bring to parties! You already know about my grandmother’s roasted pecans! If not, please see first recipe blog post. My favorite orange to use is the Cuties from California. They are bitesized, seedless, easy to peel and perfectly sweet. I have made this for showers, parties, holiday and because it was Monday! It uses items I almost always already have in the house but looks kinda gourmet! There are tons of variations all over Pinterest and recipe blogs but here is my version:
Chocolate Covered Cuties
3 Cutie Oranges
2 Tablespoons of chocolate chips {I prefer dark chocolate}
1 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil
Sea or Himalayan Pink Salt to taste
Heat the chips and coconut oil over a medium heat. While it’s heating peel the oranges and pull any random strings off. You do not want to boil it. You only want to melt them together. Remove from heat and let cool a bit so it doesn’t run off the oranges.
Then, I move the mixture from the sauce pan to a room temperature bowl. Next, dip each slice covering both sides, halfway and place on a wax paper covered plate. When you have dipped them all, sprinkle one side with salt as they lay on the plate. Use just a tiny bit more salt that you think you should. Trust me!
Refrigerate uncovered until cooled. It doesn’t take long at all. By the time you are done cleaning up, they are halfway set.
Now comes my favorite part. When you see all the gloss of the wet chocolate is matte…. they’re cool and ready to eat. If you are not sharing right away, you can let them set up really well and then store loose in a baggie in the fridge. When you are ready to eat: I highly recommend putting the whole thing in your mouth, salty side down on your tongue! Right before you thinks too salty, bite it. That moment? It’s the perfect combo of sweet and salty! You can use this exact recipe and method for other fruits, pretzels, and nuts!
ENJOY!
